We met Rachel, Laura and the Fluorescent PR team at a Coppafeel Charity event nearly 3 years ago.
We hit it off straight away, we loved their ‘Can-Do’ attitude and work ethic. Rachel was a go getter and had secured some very famous brands under the Fluorescent PR name. We knew we wanted to work with Rachel and her team and appointed Fluorescent as our PR agency. We found that Glitter Lips was suddenly everywhere – Marie-Claire, Cosmopolitan, Vogue……….
We caught up with Rachel and asked her some questions on starting up on her own.
How old were you when you became an entrepreneur?
I decided to start my own business when I was 33 years old. I was working in-house at M&S as the PR Manager for per una by George Davies. I had got to the stage of my career where I had worked for most of the high street brands and felt like I needed a new challenge. I sat down with George Davies and explained what I wanted to do and why I wanted to start my own PR Agency. He was very supportive and agreed that I could take the per una brand as my first account.
What was the best advice you have been given?
‘Keep going’. Running your own business is incredibly tough and rewarding in equal measures. Some days are amazing and some days are miserable. You have to remain positive and always keep to your vision of why you started your business.
Who inspires you?
I think my team inspires me. Everyone works so hard and we have an enormous amount of fun. For myself running my own business means you can decide who you work with and how you work.
What keeps you motivated?
Results. I still get a thrill when the work we do delivers brilliant press & social media coverage for our brands.
What’s your advice to anyone looking to start up on their own?
My advice would be realise that you will be working harder and longer than you ever would in a normal job role. Start a business that you feel passionate about and focus on what you are delivering to the market.
