Shoned Owen from Tanya Whitebits

Glitter Lips have known Shoned for a few years now, she is the MD and creator of ‘Tanya Whitebits’ – a fabulous non-orange, streak free tan.

Shoned is a fellow ‘Virgin Media Pioneer’ and has found her success with her own brand tanning range.

We regularly see Shoned on the Beauty circuit and love her enthusiasm and drive so she was an obvious choice as one of our inspirational women.

We asked her a few questions:

1) How old were you when you became an entrepreneur?

I was 37 years old when I first became an entrepreneur.

2) What was the best advice you have been given?

The best advice I’ve been given is to keep going with my dream, to learn from mistakes and not to look at it as failure but as a learning curve and to always find a way. Never give up and keep at it you will find a way. If things don’t work out, pat yourself down, quick pep talk and get back on the wagon to find another way.

3) Who inspires you?

Lots of people inspire me, you two give me a great bench mark of where i want to get to, also jo Malone, michelle mone, karen brady, but on a personal level my mum is my hero, a single parent who did the most important job in the world and did her best for me and my sister (soppy).

4) What keeps you motivated?

The hunger to succeed and to turn my dream into reality and keep growing keeps me motivated.

5)What’s your advice to anyone looking to start up on their own?

Knowing that I have a great product keeps me going and the passion and drive for that product keeps me motivated. Being able to provide financially for my family when is was a struggle for my mum is a bonus but not what drives me. I think the difference between a business person and an entrepreneur is that a business person deals in money and an entrepreneur deals in dreams. An entrepreneur takes risks based on their beliefs and dreams, a business person calculates the risk and plans accordingly.
5. Best advice is to turn to every avenue and opportunity for help and advice, who knows where it may lead to, the more you Network the more doors you open, the more you talk, the more people hear you, the more you meet the more connections you build and your confidence grows. Go to your local business advice, if you’re not sure about something ask an expert you cant know everything. Every step you take you’re learning, and when you take a step in the right direction you move up a gear.
